another reason for my site is to generate donations for this charitable work. it seems that though the greek women are gifted in many fine handworks, quilting is not among them. and because many of them are professional quality seamstresses, they mostly use fabrics made with at least a little stretch for better fit. as a result, 100% cotton fabric in quilting-appropriate patterns is not only not found in any quantity but the shop owners are reluctant to order such materials for my needs because they do not have the clientel to purchase such products. soooo, i am always looking for donations of fabric (i'll take your scraps as long as they are still useable) and finished pieced tops in lap or baby quilt sizes that are either already quilted and ready to give or even pieced tops that are not quilted yet. i will create pieces that can be used in auctions or charitable benefits whose sole purpose is to donate the profits for materials and supplies for the charity efforts on this site only. like the quiltmaker in the story, i do not sell my quilts for personal profit, rather, i give them away.
you can check my sidebar to see the charities that i am currently serving. i am just getting started so the list will continue to grow as i get things going. i have several women helping me with the construction of the quilts but this is an opportunity for anyone, anywhere, to jump in on. whether you want to make one quilt or many, send fabric donations, or raise money for any of the listed charities on this site through your church or community, i would love for you to be on my team.
